The chairman of Kunming Hengda Technology Co., Ltd. built the MMA project and is expected to get a good return. It is reported that Mitsubishi Rayon company of Japan has determined the details of its investment plan this autumn, and plans to build a set of MMA device with an annual output of 90000 tons in Huizhou, Guangdong Province, which is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2005. In addition, the company will also select a site in China or Thailand to build a second MMA new device, with an annual capacity of about 100000 tons. Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. plans to build an annual 80000 ton MMA project in Singapore, which is scheduled to start construction in the fourth quarter of this year and put into operation in the summer of 2005. The company is also considering building another new MMA unit with an annual output of 100000 tons in China or Singapore, which is scheduled to be completed and put into operation in 2007. Lucite plans to build a 90000 ton/year MMA plant in Shanghai Chemical Industry Park in 2005. As for the process of MMA unit built, western manufacturers mostly use the traditional acetone cyanohydrin method, while Japanese manufacturers mostly use the direct oxidation esterification method to effectively use isobutene in C4 fraction produced from ethylene cracking furnace as raw material to produce MMA. This method is superior to acetone cyanohydrin method and has stronger competitiveness. However, due to the conditionality of choosing to build the oxidation esterification MMA plant, the investment of Japanese companies in other Asian regions outside the country may appear in the form of cooperation, that is, through the joint construction of MMA projects in China or Asia, which will greatly restrict their development, other places and local comprehensive enterprises, which often have no way to start, can give play to the technical advantages of this method
